Here is an excerpt the  from Diane Lee Moomey’s story, “U-Haul.”

I loved her, then. She was twenty-two. I was younger by a couple years but it didn’t matter, not to us. During the War it was, just at the start—all hell had broken loose and I was going to be sent over, God knows where, The Philippines, maybe, or Germany. I’d given her a little ring—three diamond chips, three ruby chips, gold filigree band. I remember like it was yesterday. Tiny. It was all I could afford but she said she liked it.

My Mary.

We fought that day.
